Latex is a natural material that responds directly to how it is handled, worn, and stored. Following the care guide below will help maintain its structure, finish, and durability.

CLEANING

Clean after every wear. Body oils and sweat degrade latex composition over time.

Hand wash only in lukewarm water with mild dish soap or latex-specific detergent. Soak 5-10 minutes, turning inside and out. Rinse thoroughly until all soap is removed.

Hang to drip dry on a non-metal hanger in a well-ventilated area away from heat and sunlight. Never use a dryer or apply heat to speed drying.

SHINE

Latex arrives with a matte finish. For high gloss, use only silicone-based latex polish; never oil-based products, petroleum jelly, or coconut oil, which destroy the material.

Zellous provides latex shine wipes with each order.

Apply polish sparingly with a soft cloth in light circular motions. Allow to settle before wearing to prevent streaking.

WEARING

Skin must be clean and completely dry. Remove all lotions, oils, perfumes, hairspray, and alcohol-based products before dressing as these degrade latex.

Dress slowly. Latex is engineered to fit close to the body. Do not pull or overstretch.

Use talcum powder or latex-specific dressing aid to ease application. Trim nails and remove jewelry to prevent punctures or tears.

STORAGE

Store in a cool, dark space. UV light and heat cause fading and material breakdown.

Use a breathable garment bag or black plastic bag. Lightly dust with talcum powder to prevent sticking.

Light colors stain easily from makeup, metals, darker latex, and oils. Store light colors separately with tissue paper between surfaces.

Hang when possible to avoid creasing. If folding is necessary, separate folds with soft fabric.

METAL CONTACT

Latex permanently stains brown from contact with copper, brass, bronze, and some other metals. This includes jewelry, belt buckles, piercings, and residue left on skin from handling coins.

Remove all metal accessories before wearing. If metal jewelry was recently removed from skin, wash that area thoroughly before dressing.

STAINING

Light colors are highly susceptible to permanent staining from:

  • Makeup and fake tan
  • Metal (especially copper-based)
  • Darker latex colors
  • Body care products
  • Dirt transferred from hands

Once stained, latex cannot be restored to original color.
